Back to School.

For ME!!

I am having so much fun doing my assignments for my photo class.
As much as I love the people I work with, there is nothing better for me than
just going out on my own and photographing random things that speak to me.

Looking back, I have come a long way...
but I still have a long way to go.

For My Mom.

So, I couldn't glorify my Dad's pictures without giving my Mom a chance :)

I love how we can all visit the same place and capture a completely different
vision of the experience.

Here are a few from my Mom...

For My Dad.

I definitely get my photography interest from my Dad. His dad loved to take photographs
of scenery, but you couldn't pay him to stick a person in there. My Grandma says she'd
beg him to take pictures of the kids on family vacations and he'd point the camera in their
direction and just before he took the picture, he'd refocus on something in the background
and completely cut the kids out of the shot! :) Sounds like the guy I remember...

Anyway, my Dad used to set up homemade studios in our living room and take pictures
of us. He gave me my first camera when I turned 18 (my Grandpa's Canon FT) and has
been encouraging me ever since.

My parents just got back from Kona/Oahu. Before they left I gave my Dad my point-and-shoot
and told him to bring me back blog-worthy images :)
I think he did a pretty good job!

I love that when I look at some of these, they look like pictures I would have taken myself.
I think they'll fit in just fine on this blog.

Hopefully someday soon I'll be able to see it all for myself!

This weekend I went on a little getaway with my cousin (and photo buddy) Ashlee.
We had a lot of fun freezing our butts off and taking pictures of really random things.
It was too cold and rainy to go to all of the locations she previously scouted out,
but hopefully there will be many more opportunities to return.

My goal while we were there was to really focus on working my camera in modes
other than Auto or Program. Most of these images needed very little photoshop,
if any at all. I experimented with things like higher ISO's, slower shutter speeds,
different White Balances to give more of a blue or orange effect, and special settings
to enhance color and contrast. WOW! What a difference it makes when you needn't
spend hours on end in the post-editing process.

This is me shooting the very typical
"In-the-flip-down-mirror-of-the-passenger-seat-of-the-car" image.
